Here’s Yelp’s criteria:
How we did it: To determine Yelp’s “Top 100 Places to Eat in 2025,” Yelp’s data science team starts by using the data generated from our community submissions. We considered both the rating and the volume of the reviews, while accounting for the overall restaurant activity in each business’s area. From the candidate restaurants, we narrowed the list down with the expertise of our community managers and Trend Expert to curate a list as quirky, interesting, and unique as the Yelp community itself.
Here’s a Carpenter Media Group Oregon story from 2024, written by Troy Shinn, on Twisted Gyros:
Twisted Gyros wants to be at the forefront of bringing world-class cuisine to Portland’s suburbs, particularly Hillsboro.
The business, owned by Jason and Widi Kupper, started in 2019 as a food truck serving the greater Portland metro area, but the pandemic forced Twisted Gyros to focus its scope. The owners couldn’t afford to stop operating, but they also couldn’t serve the entire metro area as originally intended.
“When the pandemic hit we … decided that it was best to focus our energy on keeping it local and expanding on what was already right in front of us,” said Jason Kupper. “The community of Hillsboro has been very supportive, and we owe much of our success to our regulars whom we have developed a tight-knit bond with over the years.”
Hillsboro’s been so good to the business, in fact, that Twisted Gyros now operates out of a brick-and-mortar suite at 2401 N.E. Cornell Road.
While the restaurant mostly serves one kind of food — Mediterranean-inspired gyros and bowls — the Kuppers play around with themes and ingredients that borrow from around the globe.
Menu offerings include Korean bulgogi beef and a Caribbean jerk chicken with habanero. Previous dishes have included a Mexican-style al pastor beef and a Bavarian grilled bratwurst gyro as an Oktoberfest special.
“We love being able to bring new flavors and concepts to the menu that our guests might not have experienced before,” Kupper said. “We love our job because we get to go to work every day and bring people together through food.”
The chef-owners also think that Hillsboro’s community provides an interesting cross-section of cultures, leading to endless opportunities to experiment with flavors and offer them to an eager and hungry clientele.
“The vision for the city and its future is ever evolving, and we feel like we’ll see similar growth like what has happened to Beaverton, where big-name chefs from Portland are moving to the suburbs and contributing to the restaurant and hospitality scene,” Kupper said. “Hillsboro also has the benefit of being central to many farms and wineries which allows chefs here to utilize the local bounty on their menus.”
The growth of Hillsboro’s industrial sector has also opened up opportunities for local restaurateurs to collaborate with companies like Intel, Hitachi, Amazon, QTS and more.
Kupper says he wants to grow the catering side of the business, as Twisted Gyros can provide for groups as small as 20 or as big as 300.
“One popular option recently has been what we call the ‘TG SPREAD’ which consists of catering trays of a protein choice, saffron rice, grilled pitas, a Greek-style salad, all the ‘fixings,’ house-made dressing and sauces,” he said. “This enables guests to serve our food to a large group in a ‘build-your-own’-style setting and it makes it fun and interactive.”
