After four years of serving up fresh crepes to residents and visitors alike in Sandy, Juan and Brie Escalante have decided to sell Le Happy Creperie & Bar.

The formerly Chariteas space at 38954 Proctor Blvd. became home to Le Happy in late 2019 and opened for service in March 2020.

Before the pandemic forced them to close it, the culinary couple also owned a Portland location of the creperie for five years, all the while living calling Sandy home.

The idea to sell was spurred by the Escalantes’ interest in moving to El Salvador, where Juan grew up. With their daughter having recently graduated from high school and preparing to move out for college in August, Brie said: “We just decided this was the time to go.”

“It’s been a thought for a while,” she explained. “Some opportunities came up for us in El Salvador.”

The building and business are both up for sale, so someone could buy one or both from the Escalantes.

“Ideally, we’d like someone to buy the business and keep it going,” Brie said. “It’s definitely an opportunity for someone who wants to be in this business. It’s pretty turnkey for someone opening a café.”

While the couple has been considering moving for some time, Brie said it’s still “bittersweet” to think of leaving the restaurant.

“It’s crazy to look back on the journey of this location,” she explained. “It opened during the pandemic, and I think overall we’re lucky we were an owner/operator business during that time.

“We have so many wonderful regulars. And, of course, we will miss friends and family. We’ve made a lot of friends through this occupation we wouldn’t have made otherwise. It’s going to be strange not having that in our lives anymore.”

The Escalantes are trying to sell the space and business by November, if not sooner. They will post updates on the sale on their social media accounts as they have news to share.
