REI is headed to Beaverton.

Opening in spring 2024, the Sumner, Washington-based outdoor retailer will be taking over the previous Bed Bath & Beyond location in the Walker Center in Beaverton, at 2780 S.W. Cedar Hills Blvd. The big-box retailer closed at the end of 2022.

At 39,500 square feet, the store will host the largest gear and apparel selection for the store in the state — over the eight other Oregon locations.

It will also host a bike repair shop and sell bicycles, skis and snowboards.

For now, the nearest open location in Oregon is Hillsboro’s REI in the Streets of Tanasbourne shopping center, 2235 N.E. Allie Ave.

REI also has Oregon locations in downtown Portland, Tualatin, Clackamas — with a used gear and apparel store to open Sept. 2 — Eugene, Salem-Keizer, Bend, and Medford.

The outdoor apparel and recreation cooperative made local headlines earlier this year when it announced the closure of Portland’s Pearl District location, citing break-ins and theft.

The store is set to close early next year after 20 years in downtown Portland.
