BHG Hotels has spruced up and rebranded the former Crown Plaza hotel on Kruse Oaks Drive into a Marriott.

The renovated hotel, with 161 guest rooms and now named AC Marriott Hotel Portland Lake Oswego, opened in late April.

Lee Luetjen, the hotel’s general manager, said the revamped hotel includes redone guest rooms with upgraded technology, mattresses and furniture, an expanded fitness center, a new lounge area that is open to the general public and has craft cocktails, beer and wine on tap, an indoor-outdoor swimming pool and a ballroom space. Luetjen noted that the hotel resembles a Spanish cathedral.

“The Crown Plaza did well, but it’s an older brand and there aren’t a lot left. The vibe with the AC Hotel is it was designed to be more hip, upscale and cool,” Luetjen said. “I’ve worked in a lot of hotels and I’ve never worked in a place that looks so spectacular when you walk in.”

Hotel customers often include those interacting with businesses in the Kruse Way area and other nearby cities as well as sports teams and clientele who want a quainter vibe than downtown Portland, Luetjen said.

Some elements of the hotel pay homage to Lake Oswego namesakes, such as an old fashioned cocktail called The Iron Furnace and conference rooms named after local neighborhoods.

BHG Hotels Principal Bakulesh Patel highlighted the hotel’s food offerings in a press release from hotel management company InnVentures.

“We’ve dedicated our energy to crafting a seamless thoughtfully designed hotel experience that enhances every part of the guest’s stay,” Patel said. “We’re particularly excited about our food and beverage offerings. The AC Kitchen, inspired by the elegance of a high-end residential kitchen, provides the perfect setting for our European-style breakfast. Meanwhile, the AC Lounge — the heartbeat of the hotel — invites guests to collaborate in style during the day and enjoy handcrafted cocktails and delectable bites in the evening.”
