Allison Inn & Spa ranked among the top hotels in the country

It’s not like the Allison Inn & Spa has been left out in the cold when it comes to national and international accolades. Since opening more than a decade ago, the Newberg destination resort has been praised by everybody from industry experts to Hollywood starlets as the place to relax in Oregon.

But a recent inclusion on a list of the best hotels and resorts in the country is worth noting.

U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hotels in the USA report lists the Allison as tops in the Pacific Northwest and at No. 62 in the country. More than 3,900 hotels were included on the list.

“(The hotel) offers the perfect retreat from urban life” with “acres of lush gardens and vineyards ready to be explored,” the report said, adding praise for the facility’s two restaurants, Jory and The Living Room of the Valley, as well as its spa and guest rooms.

The ranking follows some updates to the facility in January and is an improvement over the magazine’s ranking of 88th in the country in 2024.

A component of the Allison, the Jory restaurant, was lauded recently by Chief Jack Strong of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, who has promoted using the Native American ingredients so plentiful in the Northwest in fine dining informed by French cuisine.

How hotels were named to the list

According to a release from U.S. News & World Report, its travel rankings are based on an analysis of expert opinions and traveler reviews. The magazine’s judges also rely on its writers and editors for their recommendations and insider knowledge.

“Even though our rankings of hotels, vacation destinations, cruises, things to do and more are based on a wide collection of independent opinions, the best options for you may not be those ranked at the top of the list,” the magazine said. “Travel experiences are personal ones. Nonetheless, we hope that our rankings serve as helpful guideposts as you plan your next trip.”

In order for hotels to be considered for the magazine’s rankings, they must meet a trio of criteria: They must have received a 4- or 5-star hotel class rating as luxury lodging, compiled from a variety of sources; must be classified as a hotel, rather than an motel, hostel or some other type of destination; and the hotel must have at least 20 reviews from previous guests across various sources at the time the judges examine the data.
