The campground at Milo McIver State Park will be closed through March 2025. 

Milo McIver’s campground will close next month through spring of 2025 for sweeping refurbishments and upgrades.

The work is part of major construction at Oregon State Parks to replace aging infrastructure and add bathrooms and showers. Some of the projects are funded by GO Bonds, state-issued general obligation bonds approved by the Oregon State Legislature in 2021. The $50 million investment is about revitalizing eight state parks and campgrounds, including the popular Estacada natural area.

“We thank visitors for their patience and continued support,” said Director Lisa Sumption. “This commitment to our state park system will benefit future visitors and the economy.”

At Milo McIver the work will begin Monday, Sept. 16. The campground will remain closed through March 2025 to refurbish a restroom building and repave the roadway. The campground, group camps and hiker/biker area will all be shuttered to visitors. Other day-use areas will remain open.

Other projects are being done at Silver Falls State Park, Bullards Beach, Nehalem Bay State Park, Fort Stevens, Clyde Holliday, Collier and Cape Lookout. A project at the Portland Women’s Forum State Scenic Viewpoint, in the Columbia River Gorge, has been delayed.

Milo McIver’s land was purchased from private owners between 1966 and 1975. In 1987 an additional tract was given by Grant Schiewe. The park was named in honor of Milo K. McIver (1897-1962), who was a member of the Oregon Highway Commission and strong support of state parks. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife also operates a fish hatchery within the park.

The park has hiking and horse trails, boating, bird watching, a disc golf course, and an old barn with a colony of Townsend’s big-eared bats, which are a sensitive species in Oregon.
