PORTLAND OPERA — Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” gets the season started with three shows, Oct. 28-Nov. 5 at Keller Auditorium. The opera: The adventures of Figaro and Susanna unfold with wit and delight in this satire about nobility and power. Count Almaviva is determined to woo Susanna, who is engaged to Figaro—a servant in the household. The betrothed will do whatever it takes to navigate the Count’s advances; and the Countess—fed up with her husband’s infidelities—joins in the chaos, too. This empathetic comedy of twists and turns features sublime musical moments, a healthy dose of irreverence, and is a joyful reminder of our shared humanity. More: portlandopera.org

QUEER DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL — Also known as QDoc, it takes place at Hollywood Theatre, 4122 N.E. Sandy Blvd., Nov. 3-5. It’s the only film festival in North America (and one of two in the world) devoted specifically to LGBTQ+ documentaries. For more: QDocFilmFest.org

BROADWAY IN PORTLAND — Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. Performances are Nov. 7-12 at the Keller Auditorium in Downtown Portland. Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption.
